I Have the Easy Job

June 13, 2012

At the end of a tough day, I get to drive home.

I am trained to leave it all at the office. I’m told it’s not good for me to take the trauma home with me. I purposefully work hard to leave work at work- knowing that if I bring it all home with me I’m only creating the perfect recipe for disaster…and then I won’t be able to help any families. What a luxury. To choose to leave the trauma behind.

I come home at night to a relatively calm atmosphere where no one has experienced severe trauma. No one experienced severe early childhood deprivation.

Every morning, I start fresh. New clients, new day.

I stand in awe at the parents and children who overcome tremendous hurdles every moment of every day. The parents and children who don’t have the option to leave the trauma behind.

Parents. You are amazing.
