A look at what therapy may be like
I recently stumbled upon an excellent adoption blog, Grown in My Heart (thanks Britney) and that amazing discovery then led to this poignant blog entry by Lisa, who maintains her own blog- A Bushel and A Peck. If you’re considering finding a therapist for you or your children, I encourage you to check out this blog post about Lisa and her family’s experience with therapy. It was incredible to read about the experience of therapy from the client’s perspective. And Lisa makes two excellent points that I’d like to highlight:
- Sometimes, it takes a while to find a good therapist. An excellent therapist might not be the best therapist for you, your family, or your situation. Don’t give up! If the first therapist you meet with isn’t the right therapist for you, keep looking!
- You should feel comfortable with and involved in the therapy process. If you are seeking therapy primarily for attachment related issues, that therapy should involve you as your child’s primary caregiver.
But please, don’t take my word for it…check out this post and then head over to Lisa’s blog. The beautiful family photos alone are worth the click.
